I stopped to take this following picture along a back road and where I stopped there was a trail over the ditch, so I figured it was probably the best place to take the pic, nope, too many shrubs in the way. I crossed the road and my co-pilote and Balou got out of the truck, Balou went for a nature call and I took my pic.

Co-pilote was out putting a bouquet of wild flowers together to enlighten the camper, wimine do these things.... There was a jug laying over the ditch, I get upset with trash like that, so I went and picked it up and reaching in to get it something caught my eye ...

Its a lot of fun, if you have the time.  Sometimes they will take you to a special place that you would never have found before...just go to the site and get the gps cords.... I think we have found about 50 or 60...Banjo

I was out at my sawmill year before last when a car stopped on the side of the road right in front of me. A couple got out and started looking around so I went over to see what was going on. It turns out that this is what they were doing. Since then I have seen it happen two more times. I always go out and talk to the people but I don't tell them where the thing is that they are looking for... I will tell you all that it's in the tree outside the fence about 60 feet west of the gate. ;D

On the geocaching site it will usually tell what the container is...all contain some sort of book to log in your visit.  The bigger ones..usually amo cans, have trinkets in it...if you take something, you are supposed to leave something in its place..  Another thing that they do is sometimes someone will put a travel bug in one... That's a trinket or coin that is supposed to go to a certain place like from Canada to New Mexico or where ever.  If you take it you are supposed to help it along its journey a little ways...You put it in another container and log in and tell where it is...someone else picks it up and so on and so on....Yes occasionally one gets swiped and it just disappears.  It don't cost any thing to sign up... If you travel a lot it would be fun.  Banjo

I must really lead a sheltered life. I had never heard of Geocaching until 3 days ago, I ran into some folks from Michigan at our local restaurant who were getting some directions to a Geocache site location. These folks had driven all that way to find the first site cached in Idaho. With some help they were able to find their goal. All of the roads in that area have been reconstructed and most maps don't show the new ones. GPS co-ordinates show the cache but don't tell you how to cover that last 20 miles. I became interested and got all signed up to be a geocacher, there must be 60 geocaches in my area, less than 30 square miles. Now I'm off to buy a GPS and get started. By the way these folks have visited over 2200 sites, great travel vacation. smiley_wavy

I use GPS all the time here, but have not geocached. I can load the aerial or satellite image into it and overlay the road network on top. I guess you just see when the latest update was made to one or all of the layers if your off to uncharted territory.  ;D
I use it all the time in remote forest, on woods roads I never been on, to find harvested blocks that need thinning. All I get is a paper map, and I have to figure out the rest.
