I have been dealing with this thing for at least 6 months.  Matter of fact, I was laying my flooring at the Cabin when it decided to tag along.  It was only about 1/8th of an inch long and traveled about ΒΌ" through my finger as it progressed from the center of my finger to the very edge.

The little orange splinter above the exit hole.  I had tried many times to take it out but pain/bleeding would always get the best of me.  It was very painful last week, but for some reason had settled down so I made a successful attempt tonight.  I certainly will not miss it.   ;D

Somehow I was worried about opening this one. Glad it was just about you getting some relief.

I had 2 BIG splinters. One went to the other side of my finger and one was in my upper arm. The one in my upper arm got there from trying to squeeze between a forklift and a pallet of material stacked up at that height.

Splinters are kinda like fish hooks, just part of the fun and everyone gets a good one at some point. I overheard a fly fishing instructor talking to student about being careful around others when in close quarters, the student asked the instructor "have you ever been stuck by a barbless hook?" the instructor replied  " OH YEAH,  I have been pierced more times than a biker chick" and it very often is right here in this pre trip instruction class.
Magic, I think if you are very careful you will get fewer splinters, I bet you wear gloves around the mill most of the time along with safety glasses and ear plugs, I find that most of the splinters are picked up in the off-bearing/stacking operations and the main thing is to be careful and work safely ..... checking everything as you go.

I absolutely never sawmill without my safety items which includes gloves.  I also carry several pairs of gloves to equip the off bearer or customer if they show up without gloves.

Carpentering is a different story and the gloves have gotta go.  Pine is a free agent for making splinters.  It surely is nice to finally have a finger that does not hurt.

I hate the ones that break off just below the skin, and you think, its not so bad, then like yours MM, it just hangs around and nags, nags, nags, splinters are for sure a pain,     david
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

I have had those get infected down deep after the splinter is out and the wound seals off, just festers The Doc had me soak my finger in very hot water for 15 minutes or so, then lanced it, drained very well. But so-called 'proud flesh' is another painful small wound that can deal some misery.

It is strange to have a finger that does not hurt anymore.  It has been so painful as that bitty splinter migrated from the center of my finger to the edge.  It was gradually working itself out of my finger.

Brings back old memories (bad ones).  There is a thread on removal...should have tried Splinter Out or Black Salve.

Not sure how to post the location but here it the title:

Here is is:  Sliver Removal

I have the  Splinter Out kits which work very well, but not in this case because it was embedded too deeply.

Still have not found a Splinter Out kit.  Hope to find one.  Yours sounds like mine.  Deep and under a nerve in the finger.  Could'nt cut it out.   Glad you got yours out.

MM, when I get a splinter, I wait till some puss builds up around it, this helps it slide out. Then I use a pair of small finger nail clippers and dig in till I can get the clippers on the splinter itself. If you grip it just hard enough to grip but not cut it through, I have found it comes out easily. The deep ones are a challenge, however.

The thing about this one is that it never got infected.  I could never dig it out because of the pain and bleeding.  It just took time to migrate through my finger and finally form a callous close to the surface.

Had those splinters that just drive ya nuts & HATE them...   (back when I worked building high temp industrial ovens) I would get some of those ones ya cant see from fiberglass that are right on end of a nerve that really drive ya nuts.

One thing I'll say few people believe me but when I was in class in high school (Study Hall) some thing for weeks kept stabbing me in the hand yet nothing there.   Well it got worse and while in study hall BSing with two of my buddies it got worse.   I was rubbing it and got stabbed!  well turned out to be part of a Broken SS Needle, I pulled it out of the back of my hand in front of my buddies! !  :o    It was not a shot needle it was a Sewing Needle (Mom did sewing on side for cash.)   I remembered when I was a little kid 5 or 6 sliding on the carpet playing ans stepping on & breaking it off in my FOOT! :o  It was 10+ years later it had migrated from my foot up thru my leg into my arm and down to the back of my thumb...   The end where it broke off had a bent/barb type break that must have helped push it along.   Weird story but true... :)
