I always get a lawyer involved when dealing with family . Makes it a straight up deal , everyone knows whats going on and no whining next Christmas when your sitting across the table from them . Jmho .

If at all possible buy it I own a little over half of my grandparents old farm and am close to getting the rest of it bought from a uncle and cousin . You can't loose buying land ! You know they arn't making the stuff anymore . If you don't have to cut too much of it when you buy it that will leave you some timber to do some logging of your own .

They also have programs to assist  young farmers buying land.. tax break for the seller.. low interest loan for the buyer.  Check out USDA website..
