Hello I have a sthil o34 av saw.Need to know if they run 325 chain on this model as standard equipment from the factory. Thanks in advance Don.

Kevin

The 034 is 3/8 pitch.

Hawkin50

Ok kevin, thanks. This saw had a 3/8 chain on it but the spline on the clutch drum has a smaller spline than a 3/8 #2 rim sprocket.Tryed a 325 7 tooth on her and she fit just fine.So I low cated abar also.Kinda thought it should be a 3/8 system as of the cc of engine.Guess Ill have to find the correct drumthat takes the 3/8 rim sprocket.I guess at some time some one has replaced the drum with one to fit a 325 drum and then put the small 3/8 rim on it.It fits to loose.Ok well now Im on the wright track. Thanks again.Don.

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I'd think you could simply mosey down to the Stihl shop and buy the correct 3/8" sprocket to fit your drum. The Stihl small spline does not match up with the Husky/ Oregon/ universal small spline.

Rocky is right again

Kevin

Oregons #18720 3/8 rim will fit the small 7 spline(SM7).

Kevin,

With further research I believe that you will find that the Oregon part number that you provided will work with an Oregon replacement drum system, but will not work with the standard Stihl drum system which uses a Stihl unique "mini" spline. Oregon does not make a mini spline rim like the 026/034/036 are fitted with from the Stihl factory.

Swapping to an Oregon rim and drum after the first rim is worn out is an economic benefit over the life of the saw since you can buy aftermarket sprockets much cheaper than Stihl OEM.

Hello again fellows. Thanks for all the replys.Yes you are right about the small spline on the drum.Any ways I got it all sorted out with some hanky panky.I had a 325 sprocket bar 20"and found a 8 tooth 325 rim to fit the small spline on the drum that was on the saw.Had to mod the oiler holes a bit but shes up and running and performing very well.Of course I had to grind the rakers nearly right of to get the performance I was looking for but she doing a good job now.No money spent as I had the parts already.Any ways was at the sthil dealers today with the wife,as she was looking for gardening stuff,so while she was doing that I thought I would check out the sthil saws.Man did I get an eye opener.Man there way out of my lege.Pricey or what.I sure am glade I still can make the old saws hum.Saves me a bundle.Anyway guys thanks for the replys I really appreciate your in put. Thanks a millon. Don.
