Was at the saw shop today and the dealer took in a 6400 in he had sold and the owner ran two tanks of gas through it and realized it was to heavy. I bought it for $400 and it is in new condition. I think was a good deal. never had a 6400, I have had the 7300 and a 7900 with orange tops. Anything you can do to hop this 6400 up, seems pretty quick with a 20" bar on it. Just wondering.

7300 and 7900 top ends bolt right on, all those saws have the same case.
Although, then it's not really a 6400, so you aren't "hopping up" the 6400?

Yep, pretty much make another 7900 or just something simple like a muffler mod without getting to in depth.

Guess what I meant by that is, are you talking about keeping it a 6400, and "hopping it up" like porting or muffler mod and retaining the 6400 jug and slug?
I'd get a 7900 top end personally. Same weight, 79cc power.
I'm still hunting for a good deal on a 6400 dolkita or similar, so I can do the 7900 conversion.....

That is a nice score!

I actually like the 6400s a lot just the way they are. You could run it the way it is until one of your bigger saws starts to get tired then put a bigger top end on it.

My favorite easy upgrade would be to put an old style muffler (like is on your all orange saws) onto the new 6400.  You'll reduce weight, get a little more performance, and it will actually be quieter!

Thanks for the info, usually don't get deals like this. Was first thing in the a.m. and the shop also is a Ariens dealer and has been having a good winter with all the snow and the owner was in a great mood. he was asking $450, my offer was taken and that was a great morning. I will try to get my hands on the older style muffler.
