logman, yes, the grapple really worked well on this job. I didn't have to chain a single log. I had a to sneak around a bit to get some, but I get them. :D A friend of mine has a TJ 460 with 30.5" tires. There's no sneaking with that thing. :o I found I can pick up a huge log with the grapple in the middle and drive around with it sideways. Then I can stack them up in neat(ish) piles.

ozarkgem, I have a Wood-Mizer Super Hydraulic with a 24' extension. So far, the longest I have sawn is 47'-3":

thats pretty cool. Do you cut as far as you can then slide the log back and finish the cut?

Well, I am contemplating another 24' bed extension. ;)

I turned 6 trees like that into 8-17ft stuff yesterday, no one wants WP this time of year. Gotta be fun trying to pull a slab off that long..  8)

You don't pull 47' slabs, they are too heavy, and still attached at one end. You take a tomato stake and put a chisel point on one end and jam it under the slab or board you want to cut. Then you take you handy electric chainsaw and and snip the slab into manageable pieces. Boards can sometimes be flipped off the can onto the bed rails for cutting.
