Called around, bored sitting here @ "work" and got a decent offer for my 230 Jack forwarder if I would buy this 810B Timberpro. Its a beautiful machine, squirt boom, 5k hours. What can you guys tell me about the big 8 wheelers ? I need a 130k payment like a hole in the head but the idea is tempting. Am I better off looking at a conventional 6-8 wheeler ? The plan is to put a head on my Timbco in 1-2 years and have both a full tree and CTL operation depending on the job.

The good thing is the whole house turns. The bad thing is the whole house turns. Work really well if you have to lay matting. You can swing right off the bunk all the way to the front and keep going. Some operators like to sit in the seat and not spin with boom but if you run timbco you should be used to it. Put Eco tracks on you can go ALMOST anywhere.

Another local logger has a large franklin, a dozer and a Timberpro cutter. He does a nicer job, half the smash and no big headers. Just thinking it over, the squirt boom is nice, 31.5' of reach will pile quite a bit. Only problem is now I dont have lowboy enough to move it.

I've had both I wouldn't take my Cat 574 back if you gave it to me. My 830 does so much more in a day, it weighs more but with the tracks on makes less ruts than the Cat. That cat sunk like a rock. The only thing I know about the 810 is the standard one came with one drive pump dual pumps were an option I believe. The bogies are 15 ton I think but have the same bunks as the other models I can put average about 19 ton on mine. But I'm not sure what issues that might cause.

Im suprised you hated the Cat's, ive seen 1 574, like an 09' model and the guy could hump some pile of wood out, also had a new 501HD dangler. Just thinking about it, makes more sense, and I can cut 1-3 machines, and 1 guy, if I need to. Plus I think it would look good sitting out front of the shop.  8)

I'm working on a ski slope right now that Cat would look at these slopes and go hide under a pile of wood. I unloaded it before because it wouldn't climb a hill, I mean just sit there not spin the tracks just not move. I don't think there is a forestry machine cat makes that I would want and I've been a cat fan for years only engine I ever ran in my log trucks. Just my .02 I can't be a cheerleader for Cat they have great product support but i feel that's where it ends.

The Timberpro forwarders are a brawny looking beast without a doubt. I have no experience with them, but I think I would prefer swinging with the boom like they are set up. They look like a good option for the longer length hardwoods you guys process out that way. We are 95% 100" wood up here, it doesn't really put your crane to the test.
