My C4D TF forwarder's clutch began slipping a while back and it showed oil in the bell housing. We tore it down a few days ago after limping it along to finish up a couple jobs.  It needed a clutch disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing and throw out bearing. The good news is the oil was coming from the tranny and the weep hole in the bottom of the adapter ring was plugged with starter teeth and sludge allowing the oil to build up.  The engine's rear main is fine 8)  The flywheel was very worn and had heat cracks in it.  About an 1/8" was ground off to true it up.  The tranny was sent out to Weller Truck and gone through.  New bearings, seals, input shaft and whatever else.
I figured everything was in place to put it back together last Saturday and then took a closer look at the clutch fork and wear pads on the throw out carrier.  The clutch fork is obsolete as of 2012 but a little filing will true it up.  The wear pads are coming in tomorrow.  The best part is the Deutz flywheel bolts.  According to the manual they need to be replaced not reused.  They are tightened to a preload of 40lbs and then tightened in 90 degree intervals, twice.  I went to two fastener places in Gaylord including Fastenal and no one was able to get them.  They're an ultra fine thread, close to 100 tpi, metric bolt that's close to 3/8" in diameter, 1 3/4" long, and the metric equivalent of a grade 8.  Seven phone calls to three different Deutz dealers finally got a set of the bolts ordered.  There are ten of them at 8 bux each.  I gave two of the dealers the model and serial #s and then they told me that # engine didn't have a flywheel and it must be a Tree Farmer # ::)  OK ::) :-\  The last one I called was Foley Engines in Mass.  The parts guy there was extra helpful.  I told him what the others had told me and his exact words were "Bull$$$$, it has to have a flywheel"  He took the #s and went to talk the service guys.  He called me back in ten minutes to ask the dimensions of the bolts as there are a couple variations.  He had to order them directly from Deutz but they should be here Friday.  I gave him my e-mail address which is a forestry forum one and he knew about this place.  He isn't a member but comes here for info  8) 8) 8)  I told him Foley should consider being a sponsor  8) 8)
And my harvester is still down.  I haven't had time to track down the encoder gremlin but I did buy some new wire to try before I do anything else.  We're almost out of wood for the firewood processor with 130 face cords on order.  My grape vines are in need of some training, the vineyard needs to be mowed, I've got 40,000' of high tensile wire to string for the trellises and winter is coming.  Plus the Honey Do List and most importantly I need to take my boys fishing.
