anyone ever heard of a variety called "perch whopper"?  it's a red, looks like any other,  it's supposed to have a real bit with lots of flavor,  picked one up at a small market yesterday,

Well I did some digging and found that I might have took that free hearing test at Sam's yesterday ;D
I misunderstood the farmer,  I'm sure now what He said was the "Park's Whopper" tomato.
This looks to be the one,  I was hoping they were not hybrids

only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

I should've taken a photo, but under a time crunch between peach jam and dinner for Bret before he left back for school,  Grilled 90/10 burgers! never had them before.  over hickory bark and hot coals,  He had a double bacon burger, we had singles, so juicy, it's at this point still on my shirt! :D  this is fine, heading for the shower.  Park's Whoppers are worth a go for those that grow tomato's and like them on burgers, and really most any other place you might find them on a plate.

QuoteGrilled 90/10 burgers!
Curious if that is a mix of beef and something else? Or the size?

It was just the gimmick of 90% of I guess meat, 10% of fat added? in any case they did not shrink much at all.
and to add, the brown betty,  oatmeal, peach pie thing, is gone.  Bret just notified us :D  so, all is normal around here! ;D  all the goods are chomped down, and the trip back will be a good one for him.  Glad I saved some peaches back for this occasion. 8)

Thanks, first I'd heard of 90/10 ground beef.

Park Seed Company developed Park's Whopper as a hybrid beefsteak tomato.  I've grown them before.  They typically are uniformly shaped and are very good tasting.  I try to stay away from Park's now because of some problems I have had with them being very slow to fill orders, so this year I went with Beef Master, (another hybrid that I can't really tell any difference from the Park's).   Personally, if I am making fresh salsa, tomato sandwiches, or just eating them fresh with a little salt and pepper, I would still rather have a Brandywine or Mortgage Lifter because I like their lower acid and higher sugar content.

I forgot how our hambug is marked in a grocery store, but kinda the same way. We buy the same "mixture". We buy it from a small butcher shop.

I have found that just about any homegrown summer tomato goes great on a burger, but I prefer the Paul Robeson Black tomatoes that have a light smoky flavor with a slice of Vidalia onion on mine after trying them this year. :)

We grow lots of Park's Whoopers. We plant first the Early Girl. They are producing while waiting on the Parks Whooper to come along.
A German Johnson is a good one too.  materhead
