I've got a lead on a Linamar LX990 which came off of a lawn tractor. It has the shorter oil sump, which I imagine can be swapped with my existing one. Does anyone know if the output shaft is the same diameter and length as the Onans that came on 1990's LT40's?

I've searched the forum, but couldn't find a definite answer. I'd like to have a spare engine since the Onan is getting old.

Thanks,

JC

It don`t matter, you can get pulleys and bushings from Cooks and they are cheap......

Many LT40 mills use a special sheave with different diameter grooves. I wasn't able to use the original on the repower I did. I ended up using a triple 4" sheave, which worked out well for the rpms needed.

My current engine is a 990 and my old engine is also here. I can measure the shafts if you really need them?

Thanks for the offer Jim. I went ahead and bought the motor. Very good condition and very good price.
The shaft measures 1.440" and is about 3 1/16" long. I'll measure the shaft on my mill tonight. Even if I just use it for parts it should be well worth having.

Here is the 990 shaft measurement:

It appears to be one and one eight inches.

I couldn't get a good reading on the other one but I feel it's the same.

The Onan P224 is 1.125". Many engines that size use a 1.4375" shaft. I ended up using a triple "B" 4" sheave on the Kohler I put on an LT40. I couldn't get a 3.5" sheave with a 1.4375" bushing.

Hmmmmm...... I was afraid of that. Thanks Jim and Dave.

The #1 cylinder had some pretty bad leak down, but lapping the valves and adjusting the tappets have tightened it up a lot. I'll see if I can turn up a pulley. Maybe WM has then with the proper bore.

I was hoping to have this engine as a standby replacement. For the price, if I just end up using it for parts, it was still a good deal.

I ordered the 25hp Kohler from Wood-Mizer to do my engine swap.

It came with everything required to install it on the mill, including the pulley, spacers to raise the engine up for belt clearance, new drive belt, new alternator belt, throttle linkage.

Didn't take long to swap it out, but as with most directions, they try to make them so clear, they actually get a little confusing!

But I do like the new engine!  8)

Chuck. I saw your listing, and I was waiting patiently....... :D Then this motor turned up on CL only 45 miles from home.
