I have been going through the manual making all the adjustments to my LT40 hydraulic and am about done.  I noticed that the accuset is now off from the measured distance from the bottom of the set tooth to the rail.  I thought I read somewhere that there is a  reset to correct errors on accuset.

once your alignment is done, and you are sure it is done, bring the head to 12" using a scale off the bed rail to the blade.  then go to the accuset, and calibrate the head to 12" and save.

Thanks Drobertson.  I thought I had read that somewhere but wanted to be sure.

Flatrock from time to time you will need to go back and reset to 12 if your mill is like mine. For some reason it will get off.The bottom board or dog board is the clue.

Remember to do the 'set kerf' and then save the setting.  For .045, try somewhere around .115.  We sometimes use a dial caliper to see how close the boards are to the indicated thickness.  You can get within a few thousandths and the planer guy will love you!

Very good point on the kerf setting and save! I would lean more to .105, but if a planer is going to be used material safe is good practice.  And as slider mentioned, a couple of double checks really is necessary to get it spot on, . Even after a spell of sawing as he mentioned.  Stress will show you otherwise, so make sure the cant is laying flat, no need to chase your tail,

I use 1/8 on my 70. The high school kids hit the planer heavy so the extra means there is material left when the flip the board.

there's no doubt that the band mills when set up and run properly will cut pretty flat. knots show the ugly face at times, but for the most part we can saw really close, allowing for the allowable shrinkage of course, and this time of year soft wood will shrink in short order.

I always reset the 12" reading after adjustments. With Accuset2 there is an option right on the menu. I set my kerf at .110" for .055" bands.

Thanks Guys.  Got it set and reading right.  I will check to see if the keft is set.  Will that change the measurement when you use the pattern mode?

Both the auto-down and the pattern mode use the kerf setting that you enter.  Or I should add, the kerf setting that you enter and save.

As mentioned, once the bed height is set and saved, it should remain. But also as mentioned earlier keep an eye on the last cut.  The kerf needs to be set to the blades you are using, stored and saved.  Also as mentioned the auto feature modes use the saved kerf setting for the calculations.  It works really good too.

Hello,
Here is another tip. If you last board is always a little thin. Raise the blade above the bed rail and measure to the bottom set tooth on the drive side. I always raise to 12 1/32 then push the press at 12". I think most times there is a little sawdust between the board and the bed rail.
Kerf settings in the book are .042 = .092  .045= .096 .050=.102 .055= .110.
1/8 = .125.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Marty.  I will check to see what my kerf is set to and try that.
