Oklawahaboy, I have seen box elders in your part of the world.  They have a trifoliate leaf that is oppositely arranged.  They somewhat resemble red maples.

That is a beautiful burl, I thought our local Big Leaf Maple burl was nice.  A piece of that would make a great looking platter. What a great find.
