THE FROZEN LOGGER

As I sat down one evening within a small cafe,
A forty year old waitress to me these words did say:

`I see that you are a logger, and not just a common bum,
`Cause nobody but a logger stirs his coffee with is thumb.

My lover was a logger, there`s none like him today;
If you`d pour whiskey on it he could eat a bale of hay

He never shaved his whiskers from off of his horny hide;
He`d just drive them in with a hammer and bite them off inside

My lover came to see me upon one freezing day;
He held me in his fond embrace which broke three vertebrae.

He kissed me when we parted, so hard that he broke my jaw;
I could not speak to tell him he`d forgot his mackinaw.
I saw my lover leaving, sauntering through the snow,
Going gaily homeward at forty-eight below.

The weather it tried to freeze him, it tried its level best;
At a hundred degrees below zero, he buttoned up his vest.

It froze clean through to China, it froze to the stars above;
At a thousand degrees below zero, it froze my logger love.

They tried in vain to thaw him, and would you believe me, sir
They made him into axe blades, to chop the Douglas fir.

And so I lost my lover, and to this cafe I come,
And here I wait till someone stirs his coffee with his thumb.

Nice. Luckily it's not that cold today, currently 9°F here!  :D Enjoy the south! My mom called from her home in Florida this week complaining about it being chilly there too...5 years out of NY and she's forgotten about the cold!  :D

As I sit a read about frozen loggers,
I can hardly keep from a common ponder,
It's cold outside, this is true,
but the wood pile is low, and the sky is blue,
So to the woods I will go,
fetching a jag while the winds blow.
I won't be stirring the coffee with my thumb,
but have considered using my big toe!
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

I like it!  :D  Thanks.
Now I feel a little better about trying to tie down lumber in -25 weather with a 40mph wind blowing. I don't use bad language but sure was tempted Thursday morning. COLD!  (I drink coffee black so no confusing me with the tough guy)  ;D

:D ... Yeah it was a brisk 57 degrees in tropical south Florida at 6am this morning.  ;D I went out in my pj's and t-shirt to take the recycles out to the bin. My husband got up at 2 hours later and I served him up some pancakes and scrambled eggs. Then in jeans, sweatshirt AND jacket... gloves too I think.... he went to help next door neighbors put up a retractable awning. Temps had climbed up by then....  lol.

I spent far too much time trying to start trucks and ground heaters in those conditions. :-\

I take it Maine is where you reside in the summer?!?  :D I haven't seen tropical in a long time, but I'd say 57° would make for shorts and flip flops right about now!  :D And I'm far from our members in the real cold, not really all that bad here. -15° one night last week was rough though, had all my ski gear on to take the dog out!  :D

Good one Ranger. Yours wasn't bad either, David.

I 'Wiki' ed The Frozen Logger and found it was written in 1928. I think the toon was made in '61.
