Getting Galvanizing done has never been a problem for me.  Clean the welds well, open all enclosed spaces, transport the structure to Southwest Galvanizing in Houston,  Come back a few days later and pick it up.  Never worry about rust again.  It did not cost much more, if any more, than sandblasting and painting.

I'd like to galvanize the BBQ trailer that I'm building, but where do I get that done close to Weston, WV?  I'll try the web but I don't hold out much hope.  Maybe Pittsburgh.
I actually found one on the WV/Ohio line.  A two hour drive.  Close to $500 estimate.  Getting pricey!
Actually after an accurate weight calculation it looks closer to $300.  That doable.  Still a long drive.

Just Google "Galvanizing facilities in West Virginia"!

Seem to be quite a few places listed.

If I remember W.VA, that two hours could be 15-20 miles as the crow flies..   ;D

There's an outdoor project or two that I'd like to get galvanized, but I have no idea how to estimate the cost.

Qweaver - can you tell me how the weight calculation works? Is it a % of metal weight times the cost of the zinc? - just guessing.

The people I talked to today charge by the total weight of the structure x .335 plus extra for special needs like double dipping.  $165 extra in my case.  So about $320 for my trailer.   Worth it I think.  But there is a lot of time invested in travel.  Four hours to take it and four hours to pickup.   Way easier if you live in Houston.

Qweaver: Thanks for the estimator %.
Your travel costs might be more than the galvanizing costs, depending on what you drive . . .

Why so long to get the job done ? I have taken jobs to AAA in Dixon Illinois  and in less than two hours the parts were in my truck for the ride home .   A little warm but loaded and ready.   At that time they charged $1.00 per lb. of the parts weight .

$1.00 per lb is really high unless there were a lot of extras like sand blasting or double dipping.  I checked out powder coating but that was more expensive than galvanizing.  I've always had to leave and come back to pickup large items like trailers.

There used to be a place just outside of Charleston.  I will check and see if they are still in business.

Yep, AZZ just a few miles north of Charleston.  I've talked with them and they seem to be up to date and reasonable in price.
