First thought was to buy a shiny new 572XP as the 272XP just had its 25th birthday and might be on the downhill side.  Sticker shock set in most quick and decided to try fixing the old girl.

Ordered new fuel filter, air filter, plug, and vent tube.  Installed them and re-tuned but I noticed the saw didn't idle well.  Still wouldn't start when hot.  Digging a little deeper I checked all the bolts....the two holding the carb were a little loose.  Tightened those up and fixed my problem.  Saw runs as new.

Just thought I would post as sometimes the fix can be something simple...do the easy, cheap things first.

Have to plug my 272XP, its been a great saw.  I always reach for it before any of the other saws.

I'm still running a 40+ yr old Jonsereds 80 and it's still a ripping beast since I bought it all those yrs ago. And when the compression drops a bit, I'll drop in some Cabers. Same with a Husky 2100 of the same vintage, although it got its new Cabers.

So many saws out there can be easily rehabbed.....new doesn't always = 'better'.

Could be the needle valve that is leaking, flooding it and preventing starting when warm. Crankshaft seals could be leaking too, quite common on those saws, but easy to replace.

Very happy with the one I got. It needed some tlc which it received and is rewarding me now.
