hey all, wondering if any of you fine folks use firewood infested with spruce grubs? a forest fire swept through an area i'm currently slashing, and the standing torched timbers have plenty of grubs in the blocks...wondering if this will affect usage for cordwood? any and all info would be greatly appreciated...

As in spruce bud worm?  I guess my 1st question would be are there any restrictions on transportation of that little nasty?

What are you trying to use it in? Will you have a run away fire burning it?

I've burned a fair amount of grub infested red and white pine in the OWB.  It made the water hot  ;D :)

I am guessing that it will make little popping noises. And maybe make you hungry for barbecue.

hey thanks for the replies...naw I was felling and bucking the past couple of days where a gnarly fire swept through two years ago...the badly scorched timbers have plenty of spruce beetle grubs...and I'm looking to sell cords...however,i felled a couple this afternoon and found no grubs in the trees that weren't too badly burned...I guess it doesn't really matter...I was thinking in terms of the value of the cord wood... but hey, if it makes heat, then it makes heat...back at her for the next week and some...need to get twenty plus cords and get the sawmill up and running to boot. good times.
