I recently got a new Husqvarna 3120xp a Grandberg 36" Alaskan mill 28" bar with a new 3/8 Oregon tipping chain. First time milling with it the clutch cover seemed really really hot and actually seen a couple sparks come from the bar studs became obvious when I noticed the smell of something hot. I removed the tin spacer/ dust cover between the bar and case seemed to free up the chain a little. Any help much appreciated. Not quite sure yet if it was rubbing and heating up the clutch and bar or if the actual motor was getting hot.

You might have better luck in the chainsaw forum with this one. It's not unusual to see the odd spark flicked down the chain, weird things are in wood sometimes glowing debri is spat out of the muffler too. In my experience at least.

You could try fattening up the high needle a little and running it, rule out mixture. Was the smell the potent clutch smell or just hot engine smell..
