Hopefully!  Do you know where the results from the meeting can be found?  Same place?

Thanks, hopefully they take their heads out of the butts before the meeting, I don't care what they do on their spare time!

Us "downstate" people have been giving them hell.  I sent the proposed changes to several of my customers who are quite influential and asked them to write and spread the word in their circles. Around me (close to NYC), sourcing local supplies to build is becoming very popular. My customers accept that they pay more for my lumber than at a big box store because it supports local commerce and recycles waste trees.  Several called and threw and absolute fits over the phone. They also wrote stinging letters to state legislators as well as members of the code board; one cc'ed me on the letter and it made me cringe just to read it!  I am willing to bet the cancellation might not have been weather related.

Boy I hope so.  So tired of this stripping of rights in this state.  I put the word out on a lot of the forums I am on, and the opinion was the same as here, stay out of our lives...

Great to hear that Ludo!  I spread the word around quite a bit myself.  Are you featured in that WoodMizer Way magazine?  I remember seeing someone from Warwick in a fairly recent one.

No, that is a young lady who is located across town, she has built a great business "up-cycling" waste trees. There are a few of us in each town around here, business is good and I will do my part to keep the state from changing it! Writing more letters tonight!  pc_smiley

I'm a little late to the party but I thought I might weigh in. Another place to look to for help fighting this sort of tyranny is the Timber Framers guild. I know there was some guys in Conn & VT Who had contacted me a couple years ago about fighting this sort of crap. Grade Stamps on everything, all material to be "kiln dried" all kinds of nonsense. There is a township practically across the street that no longer allows residential use of rough and/or green lumber of any kind. Its the sort of thing that companies like Lowes & Home depot Push for. Its all about cornering the market and crushing the small business owner.
3rd Generation Sawmill in the foothills of the Adirondacks. Making big timber is what I love.

Thanks to your efforts E-lobbying against proposed building code changes, rough cut lumber will remain a viable building supply option in New York.

In a meeting last week, the Codes Council made the decision to retain the current NYS provision to the Uniform Building Code that allows for the use of rough cut lumber in building construction.

The final proposal must still go through the public comment process before reaching the Governor's desk, but New York Farm Bureau is hopeful that the Council's decision will ensure a continued local supply of lumber will be available, saving farms money and supporting the state's forestry industry.

Your willingness to step forward and be heard shows that you, like New York Farm Bureau, are concerned with issues facing local landowners, small businesses and rural communities.

We need more people like you to join our efforts. As an organization, we are only as strong as our members.
It's simple, the more members we have on our side, the more effective we are at advocating on issues that are important to all New Yorkers.

This is good news.  Hopefully the guv-nr does the right thing.

There is so much more I'd like to say, but in keeping with the pleasant nature of this forum... :-X
