I would think you could just add some hardware cloth to the inside of your upper and lower grapples, with baling wire even, to pick up a load of firewood and not lose any through the tines. 

Thanks for posting all the pics of your grapple. I'm using a friends skid steer with a grapple for my log moving, and it's very handy.  I believe it's more of a brush grapple though, as the bottom tines are curved and they have significant digging teeth on them.
