The broken cables are scary. I hope never to max out a TravelLift.
That is a large size tug, are they sure of the weight ???

I really like the container house boat. It's great for it's use.

these were taken from holbrook island, its owned by the state of maine. not far from castine. this is looking towards castine. the ship is the training ship of Maine maritime academy , in the background of the cove is an old tailing pile left over from the open pit metal mine. if you goggle metal mining in maine there is a lot of imfo and pictures of the cove when the mine was working in the 70's

I took "The Cat" from Bar Harbor to NS a few years ago. That was an amazing craft! I hear it is no longer running?

I like Maine, especially above Bar Harbor, its a lot like here in Northern Michigan but with a lot bigger lake. Hope to get back there in the next year or two when I get this dang house done.

the cat has been gone for a few yrs now. the dock in bar harbor where it landed is pretty run down looking. as i remember it the cat had a collision with a lobster boat in ns and the fishermen died. there is a new boat running fro portland to ns

2009 was the last year for the cat ferry.

The last 2 years it is the Nova Star ferry going from Yarmouth to Portland, it is up in the air as to what is going to be the ferry next year.

Just Me if you travelled north on route 1 out of Yarmouth you would have gone by my house, I'm about 2.5 miles from the ferry terminal.

i was talking to a boat builder from yarmouth a few yrs ago at the boat show in rockland. they were hopping for a ferry service. he said yarmouth didnt have much going on without a ferry

Not sure about the radar, but it was really foggy. If I recall correctly there were some fishing boats waiting at the outer part of the harbour for the ferry to go out. The captain of this boat decided to come in while the ferry was going out, he made the ferry aware of what side they were going to pass on but I am not sure why they collided. When they hit the fishing boat got jammed under the middle section of the catamaran ferry crushing the wheel house.

It really hurt the tourism industry here and beyond although it had been slowing down for years, The motel business really took a beating with several changing to apartments, one tore down a older section, another was mothballed.

There is still lots going on, the fishing industry being the biggest industry, some of those poor old fishermen are doing quite well although with higher fuel prices and a few years of low lobster prices it hasn't been easy for some but the boat shops seem to get lots of orders for large lobster boats, the price would start in the $700000 to $800000 range.

We stayed in Yarmouth for the night and spent the rest of that day driving around your area. I like it there. In fact I like NS period. Its full of the nicest people I have ever met and I have been all over North America. I would move there in a heartbeat if I thought I would not starve. Halifax was the nicest city I have ever been to, by a long shot. I did take 1 Nord, so I probably saw your house as I see everything.

Of course then I drove through Quebec on my way home and they evened out the score....... :-\
