Friday was a hard day[hahaha], cut 5 trees, made 11 hitches. The big pine add up quick but alot of limbing, measuring and skidding, but boy is it nice to slay those monsters. Log on and be safe. I will try to get more pics of the big ones!
work with my father[jwilly] and my son. we have a 240 tj 160 barko[old] works great three generations working together

BargeMonkey

That is some pretty pine. I hope you got good money for them, they are hard to find down here.

I had a few that big on my woodlot when I built my house.  Butt log on one tree yielded (4) 8x8x24' timbers, free of heart.  I got several hundred board feet of clear 5/4 boards off the log too.

ehp

got stuff like that around here but can only cut in about 1 month a year here where the mills will pay anything for it , Other 11 months pretty much just walk by it

Woodhauler

I have hauled pine that had 1720bd feet in a 16 ft log! Also hauled a load of ash sawlogs once that had 11 logs that scaled 5000 bd feet total!

Some huge White Pine on our old hunting club. It has been logged many times and no one ever touched them. I would dare say they are close to 200' tall. One logger said they were too big (diameter) for the sawmills to handle. It would take a monster skidder to pull one of these tree length. lol Used to be able to drive a 4 wheeler close to them. Those days are gone..."No ATV's Allowed" now. It used to be St.Regis Paper Co. land now only God knows who really owns it. It is a good mile or more to walk to get to these trees now. Very impressive just to see them.

Whereabouts is that?  I've read about some of the biggest pine trees on the east coast being in a place called pine knoll or something, off rt 30.  property landlocked but landowner allows people to hike in or something.

My take on the "No 4-wheelers" sign is that they have em there for political purposes.

I was told that back 30 years ago there wasn't a place you couldn't go on your dirtbike.

There are some "4 wheeler friendly" towns around, but not enough if you ask me.  If I have a NY license plate on it why can't I stop down to town to fill up with gas and get some chaw?

It's in Lewis County...Soft Maple Reservoir area. I have seen what 4 wheelers do to an area. The Litter, Debris and Damage is horrible. I can see why landowners don't want them around. If used with common sense and respect they aren't bad but those qualities seem to be gone today. These tough guy wannabes will take their machines and spin them around in the road till they cut deep ruts. We used our machines to get back to a hunting area and take our deer out after a days hunting. Stayed on what trails there were and did very little damage to the Environment. I guess those days are gone.
