Yep, it's that time of the winter. At the advice of my family doc, plus some nagging from the wife, I went friday and got a flu shot and pneumonia shot. By bedtime I had a full blown case of flu. Didn't sleep a wink, chills, shakes, cold sweats..By saturday nite, the shakes had subsided, but I still ached and hurt all over. Some better today, I guess a 1 day case is better than the real thing  ::). I have a history of reactions to flu shots, but I got one last year with no ill effects, so thinking maybe I had outgrown it.  :( Apparently not so...My medical acquaintances tell me that flu serum is different from year to year depending on what strain of flu virus the medical guessers  think will occur this year. If this years strain is anything like what I just went through, you DO NOT want to chance it. get your flu shot...

I've been getting one every year for at least 20 years.   Haven't had the flu since.   Can't say if they work on not but I think the flu is worth trying to avoid.   Make sure to stay hydrated. That is the key to a quick recovery.

Something about this year's shot didn't agree with me either.  Not as bad as you describe, mild fever the day of and the injection site cramped and hurt for 10 days.   :o  Still a whole lot better than a full blown case of the flu.
