So, my daughter Karie has me into re-purposing furniture and giving the pieces a second chance in life. I must admit, I enjoy it and we are turning some very decent profits by refinishing dressers that she buys for from $20 to $50 and selling them for much more . It got me thinking about what is could do with a frame i had sitting in the shop.

The green metal frame was one of those $40 metal firepits with the real cheap and flimsy metal pan that held the burning wood. It served us well for about 7 years, but alas the metal tray finally rusted through, and the decorative marble that once surrounded the fire box had all cracked over time as well.

I came real close to putting it on the scrap metal pile, but then i was hit by a vision of making it into a table for our back yard.

I sanded rusty areas, and primed them. Then i used spray paint and sprayed the entire base. The middle insert is made form some 5/4 deck board scraps and the surrounding pieces are all eastern red cedar which i pulled from my scrap bin. The yellow looking corner blocks are eastern red cedar sap wood scraps. Finally, i applied 3 coats of rustoleum clear spray enamel

I am glad i gave it a second chance in life, because it is very different looking.

Looks good, re purposed items are usually more useful the second time around. :)

Thank You ALL

I like the re-purposing idea and it is real big in our area right now, as is the distressed furniture look. It seams like people are actually going out of their way to find both of these styles here in Indiana.

My fire pit went the complete other way. The frame rusted apart but the pan which is made from copper lives on.
The First 72 years of childhood is always the hardest.
My advice on aging gracefully... ride fast bikes and date faster women, drink good tequila, practice your draw daily, be honest and fair in your dealings, but suffer not fools. Eat a hearty breakfast, and remember, ALL politicians are crooks.

Must be something you could make with that like a nice planter of some sort

Nice, my daughter has an old round fire pit....

Will she still have it in a few days or will dad lay claim to it at Christmas?
