Hi every one, does any one have a Norwood sawmill? What has been your experiences with it as far as reliability and production rates? I have been looking at the 36 model that is expandable. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Too funny I spent my lunch hour looking and wondering the same thing

Thanks guys, it looks to be a good mill at a good price and available quickly with many add on to make a full hydraulic mill as you go.

Plan on spending a lot of hours assembling the HD36 Norwood. I have Just Now finished the assembly. I also bought 8 ft extension to cut 20' beams and the log assist to hold lumber in place. I also brought the trailer package. Don't buy their blade sharpener. For the price I had to fix problems with the pieces to make them work and it comes with a cam for 7/8 blades. So if you are like myself that needs 3/4, you have to buy another cam.
Know just enough to be dangerous.

Bought the lm 29 last april. I must say assembly was pretty rough, then when you first start cutting getting the head square with the track will be the next task. But after that I was very impressed with the mill. It's built sturdy and cuts great lumber. I would definitely  buy another norwood if I ever wear this one out.

I have a lm 29 I bought it used the gentleman I bought from said he was buying a bigger mill I think he went to a 36 . This is my first mill I have cut a lot of SYP some red oak it will cut more than I want to load ! the only thing I have done to it was build a skid out 6" channel where I can skid it around and load it on my trailer it stiffened the bed up . The guy I bought from said he had problems cutting level lumber but he just had it sitting on pallets .The little mill works great it feels great cutting and  using your own lumber !
I like the smell of saw dust in the mornings !I have a crescent wrench and I know how to use it ! The best hammer I have ever owned !

Thanks guys, that's the things I wanted to hear, we run a circle mill with automatic carriage and a chipper, but we're getting older, the electric bill is ridiculous, taxes too high and profits too low and all the maintenance is getting old. I thought that we might could cut for higher grade and recovery and still stay busy, we're used to work and love sawmilling, just want to cut out some headaches.  To those that own Norwoods, do they have steel wheels or belts and what size?

I have owned the Norwood HD36 for a couple years and really enjoy using it. It is the manual model but hydraulics can be added. Instead I chose to buy a small tractor with loader, as I can use it for a lot of other jobs. The steel band wheels are 19" in diameter with a centre groove that accepts a standard V-belt. The belt on the drive wheel also wraps around the motor (23hp B&S Vanguard) pulley. I purchased the trailer and log loading/turning package as well. The loader/turning package works great. I have loaded/turned oak logs over 2000 lbs. with it. The manual method takes longer but I am retired and run the mill as a hobby.

I have had a HD 36 full hydraulic for about a year now and like the mill. The customer support is great as well. There are a few things I dislike about the log loader but in general it has performed well. Sharp blades and proper set up to any mill regardless of brand.
