Many good reasons to not want big tapered butts.  Just need to get high enough. Spring board notches- getting rarer as old stumps rot away.


 

Don't want to get your feet wet either.

Cool finds!  I just watched a recent video of a logger falling a big tree on  a slope and using springboards he made from saplings.
General contractor and carpenter for 50 years.

You wonder who cut those and what was going on at the time. I found a set of old log grabs in the spot we're on a few days ago. The kind you pound the hooks into a log to pull with horses. They looked hand made. Neat stuff. I imagine the guy being upset he lost them.

bert almost every job my dad and I worked he would some how find a grab or a set I think he had a magnetic body I have about 30-35 grabs and sets
