I bought a Stihl 009L back in 1987.
I haven't used it much in the past 6 years.
I went to use it this week and it wouldn't start.
Found a crack in the gas line so I replaced the gas line, filter along with the gas tank vent line.
Started right up but the chain was not being oiled.
Pulled the oil pump and found another cracked line.
I replaced the oil line and now it's ready to go.
It idles perfect and revs up good.
The carburetor has never been adjusted.
Still at the factory settings.
I just wanted to let some of you Stihl owners to know that you might have to replace all the plastic lines every 29 years. lol
This is one amazing little saw.

Good for your 009L. I have an 011AVT from 1980s (guessing) and it still runs great but parts are getting tired. Last month, the throttle cable broke - $15. Last week, the high idle knob fell off and spring shot somewhere. I really like the 41cc engine in these 1120 saws.

About fifteen years ago, at the beginning of my CAD experience, I bought a new 009L. It was out of production then, but I got a good price on it at my dealer because of that...it worked great for cutting around the house, but then I moved on to production firewood cutting as a sideline, and it just basically sat.  So, I gave it to my brother in law.

About a week ago, I got it back...he had used it only a couple of times in the time he had it, and although he's a pretty fair mechanic...he was a line mechanic at a food processing plant as a career...he is one lazy suckah...and the fuel was probably the stinkiest I'd ever beheld!

But, I emptied it, put in fresh mix, pulled the plug and cleaned it real quick with carb cleaner, and it fired right up, and ran strong.  A few days later, I took it out to the orchard I'm cutting, put it in the wood...I've NEVER experienced a duller chain.  I can only guess that he stuck that bar right into the dirt!

Bought a new yellow chain from my dealer, left the old one for sharpening...after telling him that it was likely that it was toast and if so, don't spend a lot of time on it, just toss it if it wasn't gonna recover...and used it all yesterday for reducing brush piles and cutting some odds and ends.

This is why I've always bought Stihl!  That and the fact that I have a local dealer who takes care of me!
