Has anybody ever built a conveyor to compliment their splitter ? If so what was an approximate cost.

I did . I used 6 in. pipe for head and tail pulley 1 in shaft . driven with a 3 speed gearbox off a rear engine rider . 35 roller chain drive to head pulley . I used 2 sections of John Deere corn conveyer . I used round baler belts 2 and attached them together with old Arctic cat cleats and big pop rivets . 20 ft long with a 4 HP briggs . Only thing it could use is a bigger gas tank . The deere conveyer bolts together and the bolt holes match the holes in pillow block bearings .
A bunch of chainsaws a BT6870 processer , TC 5 International track skidder and not near enough time

It all depends.  I built mine for about $200 but I had the motor, chain, bearings, lumber, hand winch sitting around collecting dust.  The electric motor (40 RPM 1/4 Hp Dayton) are expensive new.  I would look on CL for a conveyor that you could cannibalize for parts.
After using a conveyor I would never go back. The speed at which I can split because I'm not constantly moving firewood must be 3-4 times faster.
