Monument to reforestation in New Brunswick

Now this isn't something to get overly excited over. And I don't expect anyone to motor over to see it. But, if your travelling on Highway 116 between Harcourt and Minto, New Brunswick you'll notice the monument to the 1 billionth tree planted in New Brunswick. It was planted in a little white pine grove adjacent to the highway. There is a side road that leads to the Salmon River in behind the pine grove. The Honorable Allan Graham  , Minister of Natural Resources (1997), planted the 1 billionth tree on this site to commemorate sustainable forestry in New Brunswick. You will see alot of silviculture being done along this highway with some current pre-commercial thinning being carried out in plantations and natural stands. I can remember alot of those plantations where natural mature Jack Pine stands back in 1993 and it appears they are mainly jack pine plantations now.

   I think its exciting. Next summer I will ride my bike up there to see it. REALLY GOOD NEWS is hard to come by these days
