Will attempt to add first pics to forum,

Sawed hickory last Fall, loved heartwood contrast and am thinking of a trestle table.

Photos are first planing to look at figure and character.

Fall 2013 purchased Stihl MS 660 and an Alaskan 36" mill, am happy with the setup, hobbyist not a volume producer, have milled oak, hickory, yellow pine, and power poles.

I see why you like it,, nice patterns you have there..
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

Decisions, decisions ... am challenged as to which orientation to glue them together, hump out (top picture) or hump in (bottom picture). Thoughts?

Thanks, Greg

Flip a coin? I like the curve coming in better. If the curve is going out it reminds me of warping. :)

Stand up 1 outside edge and middle and saw together for matching edge, remove outside board, flip middle 180 degrees add other outside edge and saw them together. You will have 3 matching edges. Mark center board so you know which side is which.

I love the look of hickory and like you, love the contrast in color between sap and heart wood. You're going to have a beautiful table no matter how you work it. It will be heavy.

Like noses we all have opinions!  I liked the bottom one because it reminds me of a train track going off into the distance and the rails look like they are merging!   Don't think you can go wrong either way.

The top picture is really nice.  Rather than a rectangular table, if the long sides of the top were sawn parrallel to the heartwood leaving a strip of sapwood of relatively the same width, it would make for an very interesting accent to the dark heartwood and a modern slightly oval shape.  Just a thought.

I have 2600 sq ft of hickory flooring in my house, and love the contrast.

I like the bottom, for some reason seems to "flow" better, lol. ;D

I agree with Magicman, the top photo.
