looks like you guys are having a good time!  I like how you let the stock go free,  I never thought about doing this with curved stock that is wider than the throat,, thanks for sharing,,
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

Thanks for sharing that video Brad, enjoyed.

looks good Brad, I have done the same with with curved logs, usually i will put some thing behind so it does not move, but not always, can belt sand or plane out any marks that happen .

X2. I have a sharply curved White oak I plan to cut and I'll try that trick too.

I love the Yackty Sax music in the background.

Now - what is a knee brace? I thought it was a rubber sleeve with a hole it in you wore on your leg.

Just be careful fellas.  I'm sure Woodmizer would not recommend what I do -letting the stock go free.  When it will fit the throat of the mill I will clamp it. I have U-shaped Oak blocks that fit over the bed cross bars to space the stock when needed.   When It will not fit the throat,  there are two choices. 1. Clamp it then cut part way, then stop, re-position keeping the band in the cut and continue through the piece. 2. Do what I did in the video as long as the stock is heavy enough that it won't take off.  Usually the worst that will happen is the band come off the wheels.  Method 1 is good for lighter weight pieces, but the downside is that where you top and restart your band, you will have a deeper saw pattern that will take more planing or sanding to get it out.

...Yes, I loved Benny Hill as a kid.  He was silly funny, and it was salacious for a kid...some old skinny guy or Benny chasing a buxom blonde!

Jim,

Thanks. I've been hanging shelves from the uprights of my pole barn lumber shed and putting a ton of them in at 45 degree angles to handle the expected weight but never knew that was what they were called.

My forklift was made by John's manufacturing company near Grand Rapids, MI.  They were in business in the 60's, 70's, and closed in the early 80's when our society got sue happy and they had a couple suits filed against them that drained them defending themselves.  They bought up used farmall BN tractors and converted to forklifts specifically for the Orchard/Vineyard/vegetable industry in Michigan.  The vast majority of these are still in Michigan because those Orchards just won't give them up unless the farm is sold off.  They'll lift about 2000 lbs-2500 lbs though I have not confirmed exactly how much mine lifts.  It will handle most logs I want to load on the mill but I have a few it won't lift- like a 36" 16' white oak.  It's a very handy forklift.  The differential is turned backwards so you have 4 (now) forward speeds and 1 reverse. 4th is only used when empty but can be a little scary speed.  This unit originally had an ROPS cage, but a previous owner took it off and is long gone.  I plan to have one made or at least the tubes bent up so I can remake it.  It is rough terrain, but is two wheel drive so you do have to be conscience of where you take it.  It has a forklift rear axle that pivots.  I don't know who it's make by, maybe Hyster, but if I ever have to work on it, I'll have to figure it out.  I've had it just over two years and it runs like a top.  It's been well maintained mechanically, but the cosmetics could use some help.  Maybe someday when I catch up on other projects.  These pics are from the day I bought it.  I've since installed a new seat, build a new battery box and relocated it rearward, had starter and alt rebuilt, replaced water pump and belts, re-wired the tractor, and added an Led flood light on top of the mast.

I just love old iron.  Nice find.  It sounds like you'll keep her in running condition for quite a while.  Remember - pretty paint don't make her run any better.  I'd keep her in her work clothes myself.  She looks just fine.
