The power company came to my place the other year and told me they were going to trim the willow in my back yard.  I told him we were going to have a dendrology lesson.  It is a Chinese elm.  I always had them do a drop crotch trim on it, and it grew back within a year or two.  This time, I told them to cut it down.

Their forester came out, took look and drove off.  Never said anything.  A couple of weeks later, they were there to cut it down.  I had to clean it up, which was no problem.  Then needed to do a directional fall into the yard.  They used a long rope to tie off to another tree and pull it in that direction.  It took a crew of 4 all day to trim the top and cut it down.

I know in several instances, the electric company will cut offending trees rather than risk the chance that someone will disrupt service by severing the lines with a misplaced falling job.  A lot depends on the utility.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

I think around here the power company will cut all limbs within 16' of the lines on either side. In the past the cut limbs and tops on my fence and made a real mess. Last time I was home and they used the bucket truck and were very cooperative and accommodating. They said they could not get the chipper truck in the pasture with the trailer. I told them no issues - just blow the chips around on the ground and let them rot. Worked fine for me and them.

Jim,
I thought the same, but it's just aged. Treated don't work with aluminum.      Andy

Not sure what Andy would say but for me I'd say "He and his help damaged my lawn and house but they fixed it." Then the next guy would have the facts to make his own informed decision.

The owner really did all that he said he would do. All was handled in a timely manner, and good to deal with. Yes I would recommend him. He said this was the first time anything ever happened like this in the twelve years he's been doing this.     Andy
