As you all probably know, I purchased a new Husqvarna 372XP a while back and so far I really like it especially now that it's broke in. My question is, should I have to high idle it(pull out and push choke in) to start it every time when the saw is warm? Seems like it don't want to start very well without doing this. Would just a very slight richening of the low screw help this or are is it just the nature of these saws? It seems to be running strong but I suspect it is adjusted just slightly towards the lean side but I've not been around these saws enough to know how they sound and act compared to others. Thanks

They are usually set a bit rich and at a slightly faster idle during the run in period. As the piston seats in the cylinder the compression improves. So does the vacuum at the inlet. This causes the air/fuel mixture to become richer. So, you need to decrease the fuel. a quarter turn in should be enough.

Not sure if or how it applies to a 372 but my 550XP with auto tune will only start at low idle if it was just shut off.  Couple minutes later it will only start if set to high idle, figured it was the nature of electronic tuned carbs??

 Thanks for the replys.
joe_indi- that makes sense that it would richen some after the run-in period. Thanks for the explanation.

I watched several videos of 372xp's running and cutting and mine actually sounds about  right assuming their saws were tuned correctly. I took a quick video of my saws, I'll try and post it up and maybe you can tell by the sound.

the xt leans out when it breaks in , your rings seat and your compression raises so it needs more fuel and most xt's were set to lean from the factory to start with . a proper running 372 xt using a 24 inch bar will out cut a older 371/372 xp but you got to set the carb on the xt so it makes torque which takes fuel to do that

I'll go ahead and richen it just a tad and see how it reacts.  :)

Well, I was going to richen the screws just a tad but both the L and H are maxed out to the limiters. It does run fine so I guess I'll leave them alone for now unless it seems to get much leaner.

Here's the spark plug, I don't see any white and I've been running it pretty hard so I'd say it's probably good to go?

that's plenty lean enough to me, all you need to do on the limiter is this, each jet has a ring around it , take a pointed end of a file or small screwdriver and shove the ring in and adjust the jet out say 1/4 of a turn, let ring come back out and it will become the limiter again, you should be fine as its getting warmer out so saw will need less fuel in the heat

joe_indi

Don't use the 4 stroking as a guide to set H screw. Some 372s come with speed limiters in their coils (blue) that make the engine sound like they are running rich.

Thanks for the info on resetting the limiters

Thanks for the info, I do believe this saw has a blue coil.
