My old Oliver is stuck in one of the lower gears.  Way out in the woods so no access to shop. Any suggestions on things to check? Double H pattern  shifting.

Pop the shifter off, push in the clutch and then take a rod or something and line up all the square sliders so they are even.  It's likely the ball on the end of the shifter is worn out and it jumped between the shift rods/forks.

Yup like ox says it used to be regular occurrence on my old super M farmall it easy to do when in a hurry. With the old tractors you gotta make good square shifts or they will bother.

Ton of experience doing the same thing with 2 old M's.

Same fix on an old Massey 65 that I used to use quite a bit and even had that happen on my '86 Ford Ranger's 5-speed from time to time.

After some time you'll feel it in the stick when shifting. Kind of a drag. Then you can use the stick to put the forks back into alignment before it's too late. Rock the the shifter in neutral to feel that one fork is not a bit out of place.
