Why dont big saws have them any more?
I opened up a 58cc Zenoah clone last evening. It had an 18" 3/8 chisel chain (Oregon 75LGX)
It had reed valves.
The difference in throttle response was impressive.
Since I have tried the same type of 58cc without reed valves, the response was really different, I would say a good 100%.
I have seen reed valves on the current  smaller top handle saws, and some older Solo saws but this is the first time I am seeing it on a saw of this size after a long time.

I like reed valve saws, they develop strong torque at lower rpm's. The big problems are cost, speed and of course emissions.
old age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm
