Hi All,

I run Oregon 72DPX072G chain which is a semi-chisel.  According to Oregon:
http://en.oregonproducts.com/pdfs/FilingAngles.pdf the tilt on the head of the grinder should be
85 degrees and that seems way, way off.  That is almost straight up and down.  When I put a new chain in the grinder and check it, the tilt seems like 60 degrees is about right.  Is their chart wrong for the DPX chain?

They also recommend 35 degrees for the angle on the tooth.  But it seems to me like 30 degrees is more correct.

What do you guys do?

Set the angle to around 60 degrees, use a well rounded stone, and like magic you will get around 80 - 85 degrees side angle.
Because the cutter has a rounded corner you will not have the sharp edge at the corner of the cutter.

Using a 35˚ angle is common on semi-chisel chain, 30˚ is common for chisel chain. I've read that extra 5˚ is because there is no point on the corner of a semi-chisel chain. That extra bit of angle helps make up for that. It's not used on chisel chain, since it would make the point longer and narrower, weakening it a bit.
