Hardwood saw timber? Softwood pulp? Veneer logs?  How much time do you have to invest into the process?  Do the buyers require any sort of certification on the part of the logger?  All things to consider as part of the equation.

Without knowing where you are and particulars on wood your taking a shot in the dark. Markets change quick anymore, here you get a couple weeks notice if somethings going to happen, think "insider trading" but for loggers, it's truly a global market anymore. You can save yourself money but how much time do you have ? enough iron to bang out 5-6k ft to keep the trucks loaded ? Bid sheets here are paying but when you figure the forester and what they actually pay it's in the low 200s, wood sold privately is substantially more but again it's all location.

If its sold on the stump and you dont like the price you can choose not to sell it and still have a viable resource.

Cherry's not to hot right now. Ash just went down 100 per mbdft but they cant take it fast enough. You can ship maple but my buyer is staying away from as much as he can till fall. Again "NY" is big enough your talking 7-8 diff markets then what goes in a container or to Canada.

At this time of the year timber needs to be moved fast.  It can't lay around too long waiting until you've got enough for truck load.  It'll stain and you're left with pallet or tie logs.

I use to do what you want to do. I see you have a winch and tractor. A slow way to do it,but it works. I did OK twitching the logs out,but planning roads and cleaning up the tops takes time. My land is hard to get around on. Rocks, knolls, wet holes and leave trees all makes it hard to get around on. I use to cut the limbs into pieces not much longer than 2 feet. Yes,takes time, but if I wanted to drive through my brush I could.
I had a trucker that most times could show up in about 2 days. Right when I was getting done cutting he stopped driving for himself.I had a very hard time to find someone to truck for me.
There is a lot to bucking logs too. Sawmills want about 6 inch extra on every log. Depends what the specs are,but most don't want 8 foot logs.

The latest round of China trade tariffs has significantly impacted hardwood log and lumber markets. I wouldn't sell or cut anything I didn't have to. Always exceptions like EAB, roads, construction projects. Large tracts with good quality I have seen bring more on the stump than it would bring cut and delivered. That kind of job bid it off on the stump. Small acres, access issues etc., those are everywhere and probably better cut yourself. Summer is never time to sell logs.

Speaking of tarrifs.. One of the local rubber vendors tried to tack on an extra HUNDRED N FIFTY to a steer on me other day.  Said it was china tarrif.  His competitor didnt mention a thing on tarrifs and even loaded it in the truck for the normal price.  Same tire from same warehouse.  Just someone looking for an excuse to gouge.
