they called Rückerolle and work flawlessly, they're standard in Europe. Rücke means skid/haul wood, so i would translate it to skidroller

If I had to guess why you don't see them here is the weight and force say a large Doug fir would put on a setup like this, we've stood a D7 up on the sprockets before trying to move a large butt log with the standard fair lead/arch.

I saw somewhere that they are called feed roller as well. Uniforest make them hydraulic driven to prevent unwinding and to help when walking your cable out.

Making a 15 ton machine less than 2.30 metres wide is a challenge indeed...
Found this one on youtube, a Morooka tracked dumper with winch and blade.

Raupenschlepper Morooka mit Forstausrüstung und Seilwinde 10to - YouTube

An older MCS800 with canopy is about 2.30 metres wide and has a total weight 0f 10 tons (loaded). With a winch, a kind of lifting frame/clamp bunk to move more weight of the log on the chassis and some added extra weight it will be at most 12 tons I guess.
They're quite fast and much cheaper than a dozer or tracked caterpillar skidder.

Thanks a lot guys.
Well, it doesn't seem to be a common name in German. The only result i get is from Adler.
