Anyone have any experience with a Stihl 044, We've collapsed two pistons so far and I notice that It is one of the few that Bailey's sell piston/cylinder kits for.  Did we buy the wrong one?
A very wise man once told me . Grand children are great, we should have had them first

Not sure it this helps but on the 044 that was made 5 to 7 years ago , it had the metal gasket under the jug , it was to close to the piston and once the saw got warmed up the piston would out grow the metal gasket because aluminum under heat grows faster than metal , the gasket would tear the skirts off the piston ,

without seeing the jug and piston to see why it broke forsure it is going to be hard to tell

Thanks.  We've been wondering if it is worth trying to rebuild it again or just hang it on the wall with the rest of the junk.  By the time we get a piston and cylinder, we are talkin about NZ$ 450.00.  Our mill arrives soon and we need something about that size on the farm.  Any suggestion for a replacement?

Not sure what size of trees you are going to be cutting with your mill, myself I would want a little bigger saw like the 660, or even the 460 , if you open up the mullfer on the 460 it will work pretty good but the 660 would still be my first choice. I donot know what kind of dealers you have around there but the 7900 Dolmar /Makita works good or a 385, 395 husky

I have the 044 Mag and absolutely love that saw.
The vast majority of my sawing career thus far has been done with Echo saws.
I've owned everything from the 67 to the 8000 and have never felt the need to complain.
Yet. I decide to try a Stihl for once in my life and KAWAMOOOOOOO. BOOM BABY.
I love this saw. It has more midrange to top end torque than my 8000. Of cource, I've only got about 100 hrs on this particular saw, but , so far , so good. Without a hitch even.
Take care and be careful.
WARGOD...out.......
