Spots inside Pecan

Cutting some Pecan came across these spots in the cut , don't appear to be metal feels like coarse sand in the spots . Dulled the blade real quick , anyone run across something like this before ?

Thanks , this was the second cut with a 4 degree blade when it got there it sounded like it hit metal . The spots felt like they were full of sand .

Often one can look to the exact point where the cut quality changed, for the reason.

How deep in the tree were the spots?

Ambrosia beetles penetrate deep.

The spots were 2-6 inches in they were in a crotch of where 2 big limbs met the main trunk .

Ambrosia beetles love pecan logs.  If a pecan log lays around after felling for even a little while, the ambrosia beetles will sniff it out.  Here is some pecan from a log that laid on the ground over the course of a summer.  You can see the black stained ambrosia beetle holes.
