im having trouble finding a 60 inch mill in stock but I can get a 72 inch for 16.00 more that is in stock. are the handles and rails made to where they can be shortened on the mil . I don't wont it to looked butchered or messed up but I thought I might put the metal saw to it . my mill date keeps changing on the delivery date so I was looking for options. thanks

Most of the time, you won't regret having more mill.  I have an older granberg of a different design that has a throat opening of 50".  That is the max width I can mill.  But often I want to saw logs with the crotch still there which is much wider than 50".  So right now my only solution is to mill as far as I can and hew the rest.  Not ideal if you're slabbing.  I'm making 8.5 or 10.5 inch thick live edge posts.  I'd rather have a longer chainsaw mill for bigger logs and crotches.

My bandsaw mill will cut 24.5" live edge.  I haven't used the chainsaw mill for logs smaller than about 38".  Just doesn't seem worth it unless you need live edge  smaller.
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!

If the mill is still the same,  a longer mill only means that two square tubes and one round tube are longer.   You could cut these shorter and have any shorter length mill you want.   But longer they add only minimal weight and not really be in the way.

after looking at the pictures some more it appears the 72 has a extra cross brace with it that may be useful. I only have a 59 inch bar to use right now but I believe that will be all I need for what im cutting.

Its better to have the extra and not need it, the need it and not have.
I bought a 36", but was looking at the 72" just in case. Well, iv got 2 trees that the 36 will not work on and dont have my band mill anywhere near complete and need to cut 1 of these trees for a wedding present, which will be an anniversary present by the time it dries and i can get it planed down to start the dinning room table.
If the 72" is a few $$ more, why not get it and look for a bigger bar later.

ive got the 72 inch ordered now. they said it was in stock it was 16.00 dollars more than the 60 inch. I ordered the winch and oilers also.

And what saw are you going to run?  You want the biggest possible in my opinion.  I run a Stihl 090.  You can run and Stihl 880 or a whatever Husky's biggest is.
