Over kill and than some. ;D But I'm the same way. Yes,it cost you some time, but time well spent. I don't see how that will ever freeze.
The snow won't melt in that spot. :)

its not over kill by any means. you did just right. now push plenty of snow on it.

look up Frost Protected shallow foundation.
Its a method of building a house with no footings in the north.
You are pretty much copying that with what you have done.
Even without the Pex from a OWB you would be OK.
I would of gone wider with the insulation and thicker.
Insulation is cheap compared to repairs/problems.

Looks like you went the extra mile you shouldn't have any problem. We have a few rocks in my area that makes installing water lines a little tough be no bed rock. About 5-6 years ago we had a drought of a summer and a lot of ground cracked badly were it had been trenched for water lines then winter came and it was very cold and it broke a fair amount of water lines if you didn't water those cracks in the fall and got them to close up the cold got to the pipe easily were the ground was cracked. Most water lines on wells around here are 36 to 48 inches deep. I have a shelf in my old house basement so my water lines starts out 36 inches at the well head and comes up to 24 inches were it comes into the house in thirty years it hasn't been a problem this will probably be the year it freezes.

If its completely bare ground you can always mulch with some straw bales 6"+ inches thick, bare ground will freeze faster and deeper then grassed or covered ground. Or if your lucky enough to find some old concrete blanckets to lay down under the straw.
