learning curve

Hi all,
Just thought I'd share some photos of a large fir log I've been working on. This is my first Alaskan milling project it's been interesting. I'm trying to get 16 beams approx. 12"x4"x40' long. between the king tides and rotten sections in the wood it's been a challenge but fun learning curve. I'm getting good at sharpening my chain.
The saw : brand new port / polished Husqvarna 3120 w 36" granberg mill

Can't quite see the grain, but looks like an old growth fir, nice score!!

I purchased this 3120 brand new in October, had the shop I bought it from port/polish & change the exhaust. Think it's around 125cc now. Running a 42" Cannon bar. 

We're rebuilding an approach for a dock, it's about 120' long with some of the largest spans being around 33'. Hope to get enough beams out of this Fir log but found some rot (and sand grrrr) had occurred around a couple of the  knots. Beauty sections in it though.

That could be the nicest looking job site I have seen on here, Sure those aren't palm trees your cutting up.

Great job with that saw, amazing what some real iron can produce on the Alaskan mills.  How many hours did your first beam take you, as that came out great.

Thank you, I feel pretty fortunate to have that work site on sunny days when the tides are cooperating! To section out the log and do one 40' x 4' free hand cant I'm about 15 gallons of gas into it. Manipulating that log around was interesting, pretty new to all this so it was a caveman show for the most part ha ha. But the lumber has been first class with the exception of the punky spots ( and of course my wonky cuts.. ;D)
