I doubt that it was a pitch pocket.  Maybe a rock embedded in the bark after it was felled.  Maybe a nail from an old deer stand.

I hit a section of a T fence post that was ~43' up a tree but that is another story.  ;D

I believe you are correct on the rock sir, probably picked up one in the skidding process. Pressure washed everything since and no more sudden blade failures.

To update, got the logs from my SIL cut to length and moved to my place weekend before last. Two dump truck loads of mostly pine with some water oak and a couple red oaks.

Got some sawin to do! smiley_grin

Those are some good looking saw logs!  And you got the SIL to do all the work and deliver them too!

Pressure washing works well but you'll never get all the rocks, sand, mud out of the bark. There was a previous comment about the EZ Boardwalk turning the logs toward in-feed side so that your blade will be entering clean wood as soon as possible. Now you know what that poster was talking about and that's why the EZ Boardwalk clamps on the wrong side of the mill.  You will still have to cut into the bark unless you want to produce a lot of waste, but you'll get down to clean wood very quickly.

What do you think of using the Peavey vs. Cant Hook on your mill?

Barney67

Bought a 48" hook and a 60" peavey along with the mill, I'm definately using the peavey more, lots of prying on the mill bed and the added leverage leverage helps as well.

It's been about 5 months since I picked up my mill, just wanted to give an update.

I

Got a doghouse up, just need to finish the siding.

Replaced the boat winch loader/turner with one that runs on electrons.

Old blue just wasn't cutting it anymore, so it got upgraded.

Life is better with a loader. smiley_beertoast
