This has to be tough on tracks.

Prolly rough on the road too! Looks like oil leaks in the first picture

sprucebunny

The road is pretty well wrecked already. Delaminated and some whopper holes they filled in February . US 302 in Fryeburg.

Ya my memory gland says that road was rough around the turn of the century when we took it on a m/c camping trip to moosehead lake. Also like the roads around here- especially this time of year

kiko

I was unaware that a jd track / rubber tire buncher without leaks exist. Leaks are not an option they come as standard equipment.

sawguy21

:D That is hard on roads and equipment.

Really quite surprised the state hasn't fined them for have tracked equipment on the road.

SB, those tracks aren't bothered by asphalt any. Driving on asphalt in cooler weather isn't much different than driving on ice, you skate all over. No traction=no friction=no wear. Things often don't turn out as well for the asphalt, though. At any rate, that is a beautiful stand of white pine they get to cut, albeit with some challenges😊 Even being a logger myself, I don't like to see those beautiful old stands of White Pine come down.

I'd guess the state might have been involved in letting them do it.  Can you imagine how many of those trees have blown over there.

The trees have been marked for a few years. I imagine they are going to (have) to repave the road this year. Any damage from equipment will be minor compared to what plowing did this winter !!

It is a very nice stand and hasn't been falling over very bad but you can see a few are dead and probably shedding branches.

The wires right there have to make it exciting for the buncher guy !!!

since the state or town own that land they a likely working for them. the road riteaway will be at least 66 ft

Skeans1

Really it's not that hard on the pavement unless you turn on it, yes it's single bar grousers but you're just going back and forth on the surface. You'd be amazed on how often they walk a 100k shovel out on the road to help push a tree that's hard on the road.

thecfarm

Should see a grapple skidder go on a paved road. They have that thing in high gear. ;D  I have seen that when the state is going to redo the road.

Sprucebunny,

Is that the section of RT.302 right past the School, near the turnoff to the fair?

It's between the NH state line and the little hill before town. Near the new info center.

Ok, that makes sense.  Plenty of tall pine along that road, but I always think of the Fair before the trees!

There are crews that a doing a lot of road/ street tree work that have even sizeable machines on rubber pads or clamp ons , rubber tracks put down boards/ mats etc.

Beautiful trees.  I'm guessing that buncher has already done a lot of walking on hard surfaces as the grousers look quite worn.  I'm curious as to what took the big chunk out of the engine compartment in the top left hand corner of the last picture.  Looks like he got into a fight with another hot saw
