I built my own mill so I dont have anything to go by. My guide right now is too close to my log and rubs on it at times. Makes it really hard to push. :(. I am going to move it back away from the log. Just need to know how far most are away. Also have problem with saw dust building up on guide roller. Figured when I move it that wont be as hard to overcome to. Have to put on a shield to stop the sawdust. Hope someone can help. Harold

Given the asymmetry of logs, knots, irregular growth patterns, etc., it is difficult to define the distance to the stationary blade guide. But, on a cant it is much easier; the distance on my mill is 1.75".

Sometimes when I am sawing a sizeable log and it interferes with the guide, I saw off the offending part with a chain saw, or reposition the log closer to the moveable guide making more room for the stationary guide to pass by the log. To deflect sawdust from the blade guide I welded a baffle on the blade guide holder; the blade passes just under it.

Thanks kellogg, I was thinking 2 in. so I wasnt to far off. I an going to weld a piece of iron on to deflect the sawdust then bolt a piece of plastic bucket or something that can almost touch the quide and not hurt anything. Thanks again.

On my mill, the stationary blade guide roller (the edge toward the log) is 3½ inches from the inside edge (the side toward the log) of the log stops.

Thanks Chuck, I guess I was thinking that where it is now I couldnt run in to it with the blade. Guess I will just have to watch out for it. Ha.
