Does anyone have a good source for replacement cable for a logging winch? I have a Uniforest 35E winch. It comes with a 10mm x 70m swaged cable (3/8" x 230'). I managed to badly kink my cable right about at the mid-point. Some strands are broken, and it won't go around my self-releasing snatch block.

The only place I've found it is from Hud-Son, the US distributor for Uniforest. They want $440 plus shipping for it. (I do pass by their place from time to time and could pick it up to avoid the freight, if I wanted to wait that long.)

Their regular, non-swaged 3/8" x 165' cable goes for a more reasonable $142. However, I really like the swaged cable that it came with - it flattens the surface of the cable a bit, so it doesn't seem to pick up as much crud while dragging along the ground. Also, I don't often use the full 230 feet it came with, but it has been very handy to have it when I needed the length.

So are their other sources of 10mm x 70m (3/8" x 230') swaged cable out there?

Try Reed Supply in St J.  That is where I have gone and their prices seem fair to me. Last one I got had the hook end all made up on it.

John, Lets see if we can get @BargeMonkey to throw in here, I think he has some good contacts in this line, and being in the northeast will help too. I believe he just replaced on of his a month or 2 ago.
Also, have you tried JS Smith logging?

I forgot about Reed Supply. I ordered my Ofa Eko tire chains from them a few years ago. I just gave them a call.
They were surprised to hear of anyone using a swaged cable on a tractor logging winch. They are common on skidders. I did not realize they were so unusual on a 3 pt hitch logging winch. Swaged cable was original equipment on my winch - and it's not even a huge winch - it's the equivalent of a Farmi 351.
It's not something they stock, but they are looking in to whether they can get it for me.
A bummer that the kink happened about in the middle of my old cable. If it were near one end, I'd just cut the damaged section off and re-attach my hook.

JS Logging supply, or Comstock. Stahls being an ag dealer maybe another option. Where exactly is "close" for you ?

Why the swaged cable John?? You looking for smaller diameter so you can run a longer length ?? or is there some other advantage ?

230' of swaged cable is what the winch came with. I like the surface of it better - both for handling and because it seems to pick up less crud & grit when it's dragging across the forest floor. It's supposed to have better wear resistance and crush resistance as well.

I'd also like to maintain the ability to fit 230' on the spool. Not sure if it will fit 230' if not swaged (but I've never tried it).

230 feet. :o  That's a lot of cable. I found out real quick I can not walk a straight line with my 150 feet of cable through the woods.  :( But that 230 feet would of helped me one winter when I was cutting in the bog. Would of saved me a lot of time.

I rarely use the full length, but when I do, it's indispensable. I used all of it and added a 20 ft chain to the end when working on clearing for a new trail (the trail is is too rough and has too much of a side-hill to drive my tractor on - at least until we get an excavator in there to fix things up a bit).
When using most of the length, it's really helpful to have someone working with you - it's too far to really see what is going on, and walking back & forth to check on things gets old.

The new owners of Comstock have been good to deal, I try to order my jack parts and some of my supply's from Justin Smith- JS supply, hes also really good to deal with. Older deere parts I've been ordering from Harold's in ME and they have been great.

that's a long cable! the farmi my dad bought came with 175'  and we never used all of it. most of the interior layers got so stove up that they went to waste. when we replaced it we cut the new one in half. more line pull, less tangles, and a spare to boot!
