I have a neighbor that has about 15 to 20 Leland Cypress he old like milled. They are 8' to10' feet long and most average about 10" on the small end. What type of characteristics will this lumber have? How is it to work with?

You could say it tends to have knots...

Mfrost459, I am interested in the answer to your question also. I have about 80 lelands that are starting to decline and will need to be removed soon in the next couple years. I would like to put them to good use if they have one. I was thinking of taking one down this fall to see how it saws and chips.

It saws out fine, it's a soft light coloured wood a bit like a white cedar. Seems at least semi-durable. It will have knots if the trees haven't been pruned, but they tend to be fairly small and stable.

Saw them up.  8)

Like Ian said ,saws easy make good fry in service framing certainly more durable than our local pine.
Are your dying or declining from canker.
Saw millers are just carpenters with bigger bits of wood

Canker I think, but i have not looked at them closely for the last three years or so while I have been away. Ill give them a closer inspection in a week or so.

I sawed a large Leland and thought it was similar to the bald cypress I regularly saw.
Once you get sap in your veins, you will always have sawdust in your pockets.
