I had some grits the other day at Catfish Johnny's in Lake Panasoffkee.  And I even survived 8) 8)  Had cheese innum.
I still cain't see what you all get so excited about with them grits. ??? ??? ;) ;)

Had them grits twice.  Once I was down in South Carolina about '94 and stopped at Waffle house.  I figured I'd better be adventerous and try them out.  I tried butter, syrup and jam.  I finally figured out what went best with grits,     plain old hunger.  Then they went down fine.  The second time I had them I was working in the shop and a dust collection hose broke free and I swallowed a whole load of grits without any butter or syrup, tasted about the same.  ;)

Hehheh.  At least with the cheese in 'em, I didn't have to chase 'em around the plate with a piece of bread like I done the first time I ever et 'em.  I think that was in boot camp.  Parris Island, South Cackalacky.  1970.  Wonderful place.

We don't get excited about'em, Les, we just can't do without them. ;D   I could eat them every day, but I don't.  I don't go a week without them, though.

Grits are a "comfort food."   Yankees ain't never learned to like them, and I figger that's why they are so cranky most of the time. ;)  How was the catfish, anyway?  Sure wish I coulda made it to Waldo to meet you and Corley5, but I just couldn't get away.  I had orders to get out, and Linda had to work all weekend. :-\   I was hoping some of you would get over this way for a little visit.

I know !!   I know !!

Cat head biscuits are as big as a Cat's head. :D :D

Lots of times you have to go pick them up off of the stove 'cause they get cold if you put them on the table.  ;D   Big  ol' thick biscuits that hang together enough to make a ham sandwich, wont fall apart when you stick your finger in them and fill with honey but are short enough that they melt in your mouth. ;D

mmmmm-m-m-m   Boy!!!!

jjmk98k

Ain't never heard of them cats head biscuits....

but a local German butcher where i shop at has some "Pickled beef lips" or Lamb brain.....

for those who are daring.....

marcel, you da man.   ;D

POUTINE - all my trips to Quebec include a stop for fries 'n gravy.   I spent a lot of time right down around Sherbrooke and on the VT/QC border a couple years ago, and was always heading up to Magog and Sherbrooke for something new and different to eat.

Also, Tim Hortons - better than them chunks of crap we got for donuts down here.

farmerdoug

Tim Hortons-  They are a staple in Canada.  We have 2 in Port Huron right across the river from Canada.  They do a good business even though they are only 2 miles apart.

AMEN to that.  You're talkin real eatin food now! 8)
I don't think I couldda stood all the funny looks I wouldda got if I'd asked for poutine.  This grits stuff looks like what we used to feed the hogs.  I suppose if it makes itself into bacon, ham, sassidge and chops then it would qualify as real food! :D :D :D

Poutine (pronounced "poo TSIN" by the natives) is french fries and cheese curds with gravy.  It was invented in Warwick, Quebec, about 120 or so miles north of me.  If made right, it is deeeelicious!  You won't find it much outside of Quebec and northern New England.   Maybe the Canadian Maritimes.  Not sure about that.  It is definitely a French Canadian dish.
Do a google search and I'm sure you will find out all you ever want to know about it.

You can get it in the civilized parts of Ontari-arie-arie-oooo too.  :D

It's what real Cannucks use to stick their ribs together so's old man winter can't get in.  ;D

Nuttin' better for lunch on a cold day than a big ole' bun full of back bacon and a heapin' helpin o' pooootine.

Heck, it even seems to make my plow push snow better.  ;)

Mebbe that's why they don't have it down south, no need to keep warm.  :)

Well DanG I'm still with you.  Breakfast ain't breakfast without grits.  That is if you're eatin' eggs and other regular fixins.  Our neighbors from the northern tribes (yankees) just don't understand that grits ain't a cereal, it's a supplement to aigs and bacon or sausage to be chopped up and mixed in with the grits.  Only thing better to make a rib-stickin breakfast is eggs and cornbread(fried hoecake) with sowbelly.  You can drag lumber or hoe cotton all day on that ration.
