We were having coffee on the front porch a couple of mornings ago enjoying the sun.  A  squirrel ran across the road full bore followed shortly by a couple more running across the yard.  They chased one another for half an hour.  I mulled over how to put numbers on them so we could keep track of the winner.  Nothing feasible came to mind so I decided just to watch.  Figure there will be a bumper crop this fall.  That night and last night we stayed out and listened to the Barred owl chorus.  So many TV programs are irritating and this was a refreshing change.  Nature still has the best programs if you take the time to watch and listen.

Entertainment at its best!

Last fall while at the camp I was watching two squirrels chasing each other around a fir tree, they would go around the tree a bunch of times about 6' off the ground then when the first squirrel got a good lead on the second one it would jump up on a branch and hide while the second one would continue to go around the tree, after a few laps the second squirrel would stop and look for the first one and it would jump down off the branch and startle the second one then it would start over.

Reminds me one time I was hunting rabbits in N. Fla and they jumped a big old swamp rabbit on the other side of the creek from me. He came and jumped in and swam the creek, ran a circle of about 60-70 yards, jumped up on a fallen log I was standing on and ran to the end and stopped while I sat and watched the whole show. My dogs crossed the creek and ran along his trail and passed within 6' of where he was sitting. He calmly sat there watching till the dogs got to the start of their circle then hopped off and went back to the trail where he had crossed and was fixing to re-cross the creek when I shot him. It looked like it was a big game to the rabbit till the unexpected ending.
