I just today, posted some videos showing how to use a Big AL Borneman layout template to layout and knife your lines on a post making a mortise, and a beam making the mating tenon.

Here is a link to those vidoes:

Thanks Jim. I really like timber frame look and not having any timber frame experience ( I do other wood working ) if found this interesting. Maybe one day I will get to do a project.

Nice video series.  My only comment is tool placement in regards to RF and AF (reference face/adjacent face).  So you don't have to redo the video ( ;)), I would suggest putting subtitles (comments) on the screen.  I first noticed it in the first video when laying out the final face.  You seemingly flipped the Big Al to the edge next to you when most other measurement were from the camera side.  I knew it was because the timber was rotated but someone new to this might not catch those subtleties.

You touched on it at the end of the final video.  If you added the comments, these would be perfect training videos for the very new as well as those with some experience.

Thanks for doing them.  Can't wait for the next installment when you cut the mailbox post and brace!

Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

Yes, you always have to "fence" your Big AL off the reference face or the adjacent face. And when you roll your timber over you have to be aware of where those are so you place it correctly.
